Once again, Burke has found in its midst great talent and true friends. This spring, 8th grade parents Donna Greenfield and Burkey Belser, new to Burke this year, generously offered the resources of their design firm Greenfield/Belser Ltd., to create, pro bono, a signature mailing brochure to advance the fund raising effort of the Campaign for the Future. Donna and Burkey were very enthusiastic about the new building and the need for the renovations of the Upton Street building and they wanted to contribute in a significant way to Burke’s success. Thus ‘No Space/ New Space’ was born.
After several meetings and a tour of the School, the design team at Greenfield/Belser created a mailing piece that aptly illustrated the need for the new building as well as for contributions to support the fund raising campaign.
Upon opening the envelope, the message is unmistakable: even the words ‘No Space’ haven’t any room. But when the piece is further unfolded, it becomes clear that with the new building, Burke will be able to stretch out into its ‘New Space’ and the entire Burke community will benefit. In addition to the message itself, the pop out build-it-with-us building put a smile on many a face—evoking a kindergarten-like glee in even the most serious of adults.
And the message of “Build with Us” has resonated. Burke has received many new gifts from families, grandparents, alumni, past faculty, alumni parents, and friends alike and each day new gifts arrive. This tremendous support puts the school ever closer to the Campaign for the Future goal of $4 million.
‘New Space’ demonstrates how Greenfield/Belser’s extensive research on marketing communications strategies can capture the spirit of an institution. The simple and creative presentation and message were perfect for Burke. No wonder Greenfield/Belser is the premier brand-design firm for the U.S. legal industry and a national leader in marketing communications for professional services firms. Notably, they received a Presidential Design Award for another pro bono project, designing the Nutrition Label for the FDA. With offices in Washington, DC, New England and Southern California, more than 40 designers, copywriters, account executives, Web developers and others work together to provide fully integrated marketing communications strategies for their clients. Thanks Donna and Burkey for your generosity of spirit, enthusiasm and talent!
